Location: India
Status: Completed, 2024 to 2025

Overview

The challenge. Cascade failure is the scenario every transmission operator wants modelled and none wants to witness: one tower goes down, and the question is whether its neighbours follow. For a line of twenty guyed towers, Kalpataru Projects International needed that question answered with engineering, not intuition.

Our approach. Our engineers built a detailed finite element model of the full twenty-tower line — every tower, every guy, every conductor span in one model — analysed its structural behaviour under wind-only load cases, then simulated the forced collapse of a single tower and measured the effect propagating into the adjacent structures. Modelling the line as a whole is what makes the result meaningful: cascade behaviour lives in the interaction between structures, not inside any single one.

The outcome. The final deliverables comprised a full technical report quantifying the cascade behaviour and a video rendering of the simulation — analysis the client’s engineers can act on, and a visualisation their stakeholders can immediately understand.
