Overview
The challenge. Adding third-party ADSS fibre optic cable to existing structures changes the combined loading condition on every pole involved — and on a large-scale program, the engineering has to keep pace with construction while leaving the utility with full structural assurance at the end.
Our approach. Our team delivered end-to-end engineering for the program: strength and clearance analyses on every affected structure, and management of the engineering process from preliminary design through construction to as-built documentation. The work was delivered as an independent consultant to KOSMOS, formerly West Power Energy, in parallel with the pole loading and asset management program — the same structures, methods and models serving both.
The outcome. The fibre network went onto SDG&E’s poles with every modified asset analysed, documented and closed out to as-built — five years of attachments with the utility’s structural assurance intact across the program.
